Development of Utrecht CS station environment
Description
For several years now, a major metamorphosis has been underway both at the Utrecht Central railway junction and in the area around the station. The municipality of Utrecht is working together with Prorail, NS, Corio and Jaarbeurs on a new Station area, which together with the old city centre will soon form the centre of Utrecht. Following a referendum in 2002 on the urban development vision to be chosen, a Master Plan was drawn up and is currently taking shape. Several subprojects have been completed or are nearing completion, such as:
- the expansion of the number of train platforms and adjustments to the railway marshalling yard;
- the renovated and widened station walkway;
- the municipality's new municipal offices as a 'landmark' on the Jaarbeurs side;
- the rehabilitation of (the water in) the Catharijnesingel;
- new bicycle and pedestrian facilities, bicycle storage facilities (including one of Europe's largest); - the new city hall; - the new city hall.one of the largest in Europe) and bus and tram stations on both sides of the railway.
The traffic aspects of these changes - and of the temporary measures, for that matter - are particularly interesting. Reason enough to get further information with the department on site.
The maximum number of participants is 30.
