Networking day
Description
Is the development of traffic knowledge stagnating?
Discuss the knowledge issue and help find solutions
What is the state of knowledge management in the field of traffic and transport? Isn't the wheel being reinvented very often? What about the cooperation between different knowledge centres? And are we investing enough in (professional) people? After all, knowledge is only worth something if it is managed, transferred and used. In a contribution to the 2007 Colloquium Vervoerkundig Speurwerk, Lieke Berghout and Jan Ploeger raised these points for discussion (see article at the information link).
There seems to be a standstill in many areas. The board of the Traffic and Transport Engineering Department has identified that this is a widely felt problem and needs discussion with its members. This involves the broad quality of our field and the related image of the traffic engineer as a professional. Several employers (public and private) have major problems attracting well-trained traffic experts. The public debate in the media is often of a poor standard and lingers on cheap one-liners and meaningless solutions. And all this while many billions of euros are turned into infrastructure and transport services every year. That deserves a professional working environment. We don't want to just reflect gloomily but also look for solutions. Therefore, all members and other interested parties are invited to spend a Friday afternoon thinking along and actively seeking constructive solutions. We have found six key stakeholders in the field of knowledge management willing to shed their light on this theme. The outcome of the afternoon will be a number of concrete actions for which members are invited to help develop them further
