New E.ON Maasvlakte power plant
The excursion, where only a group of 12 could participate due to very strict safety requirements, to the most modern coal-fired power plant in the world was very interesting. This because the latest knowledge and experience from various fields come together at one location; transport and transshipment of coal, coal processing (coal ore mixing, grinding/powdering), electricity production and network balancing, flue gas cleaning and process management. As a result, this plant is among the most efficient coal plants in the world. Also, the amount of residual product released during combustion is minimal. In terms of emissions, the power plant can compete with a gas-fired plant. At the time we visited the plant, it was still in the testing phase. We were given a tour of the entire plant with detailed explanations, followed by lectures by the project manager and the head of communications. A repeat visit is definitely on the cards.

Description
In April 2008, E.ON started the construction of a new coal-fired power plant, with the working name Maasvlakte Power Plant 3 (MPP3), next to the existing units. The capacity of the new power plant is 1,070 MW. Due to the very high steam conditions (290 bar and 600 degrees Celsius), the power plant will have an efficiency of over 46%. Apart from coal, the power plant can also burn biomass
Carpooling: gathering/departure at 11.30 a.m. at P+R Transferium Capelsebrug
13.00 - 13.30 Reception

You can register by 10 September at the latest, stating your name, passport number and shoe size (t.b.v. safety shoes).
Maximum number of participants is limited to 12. Given this small number of participants, no bus can be organised and it is expected that travel can be arranged via carpooling.
In case of great interest, we will see if a second visit can be planned in consultation with E.ON.
