Description

The Maankwartier in Heerlen concerns a major infrastructure and construction work in and around Heerlen's NS railway station.

It is by far the largest work in the inner city of Heerlen in the last 10 years.

The developers of this project are: Weller property development BV for the offices, retail, parking facilities and rental flats.
Municipality of Heerlen for the railway overpass and all public infrastructure.
NS Stations for the development of the railway station and related commerce.
Bouwontwikkeling Jongen BV is building the parking garage, a supermarket, office space and the rental flats.

The plan, designed by (visual) artist Michel Huisman, is a city within a city.
It's about a meeting place where living, working, shopping and public transport come together.
Where people meet.......

We are welcomed by members of the Maankwartier project team and possibly designer Michel Huisman, who will provide an explanation of the origins and ideation surrounding the project.
The project has now entered a phase where the huge contours of the structures are becoming visible.
If it is (safety) technically possible, we will visit the construction site to gain practical impressions of a work of this magnitude.

Therefore: get your safety shoes and helmet ready to take to this excursion

The programme is as follows:
13.30 - 14.00 Reception
14.00 - 15.00 Exposure/explanation of the idea formation and preparations
15.00 - 16.00 Explanation by the contractor of the construction work and a tour of the building site
16.00 - 17.00 Opportunity to discuss the results over a drink
