Regions in Limburg merged into a region with Euregio contacts in Germany and Belgium by 2023. Transition to Sustainable.
Members of the KIVI Region Limburg
Dear Members,
This is our first newsletter of 2023.
This is our first newsletter of 2023 and we would like to update you on the latest events. On 1 January 2023, all Limburg regions merged into one Region Limburg.
(Previously the Regions: Limburg-Zuid, Limburg-Midden, Limburg-Noord). Due to the large distance between Mook and Eijsden, the excursions and meetings will be spread over the Limburg Region. In addition to the Region meetings and Excursions, we will also start Lunch webinars from 12-13pm in 2023, which can be easily followed by anyone from a computer. Initially, we did not want to send out a newsletter until the website is fully integrated, but due to circumstances at the KIVI office, the website merge is still under construction. We hope to be able to share a beautiful and complete website with you this year. However, future activities will be available on this temporary sub-site.
As a first action, we as a board have worked out our new mission statement. Our new Mission of the new Limburg Region focuses on three topics: Knowledge Sharing, Career Development and Future Orientation.
Knowledge sharing. This happens in several ways.

as an Engineer, always strongly oriented towards technology. This is also reflected in the current division of KIVI into a number of Departments, Regions and Circles. The modern Engineer has to take into account all social aspects and target groups, which is why we would like to invite you to join us in a different way. As engineers, we have a new task as seen in the pentagon above. Namely, sharing knowledge with other parties. We want to support them with their part in the great transitions that await us. To realise our mission, we are looking for companies and agencies that want to help in the important joint activities effectively and thematically in working groups. We can work together on specific themes co-named by YOU. As Engineers, supporting society with the complex problems we face. To face these complex problems, cooperation is more important than ever before. "Together we are stronger". We aim to have a strong Limburg Network participating in Technical and Societal issues in the Region in 5 years' time where we as Engineers contribute our knowledge to society. Let us know if YOU are looking for cooperation in this context. Municipalities have their National Programme RES (Regional Energy Strategy
In addition, one of the main themes is Circular Economy as this will be a hot topic for many companies and educational institutions in the next 10 years. See the Knowledge Cards.
With the transition to a sustainable society coming at us in full force, we are the most appropriate target group to shape the innovations. As KIVI members, we want to share knowledge and experience mainly through our Excursions, Lectures and Webinars. Sometimes there are conferences to present important topics bundled together. One of the ways we can share knowledge is to make the KIVI network open and transparent. There are many engineers in KIVI from a wide variety of backgrounds and experience. To make the best use of our network, we would like to invite you to make some adjustments to your online data. On your personal page (click on your name at the top right and then your personal preferences will be visible) On this personal page, due to the AVG legislation, only a few details are filled in. You have to edit that yourself otherwise knowledge sharing is very limited. So fill in your own preferences and also choose the departments and regions of which you want to be a member and thus receive information. This has the advantage that all announcements of lectures, meetings, webinars and excursions will arrive in your mailbox. Should a member want to contact you, a mail address and phone number are a minimum. The profession already gives more information about the field.
Career development: This is a personal choice and you can partly fill it in via the services offered on our KIVI website. In addition, a good conversation with a more experienced colleague can help in your decision-making about your career. We will look for more moments when these contacts can take place. Another option is to use Linkedin the "KIVI Engineer network" to make yourself a member of that group. There, too, you can ask questions in this context.
Future orientation or also called future-oriented professional orientation. What knowledge and experience do we need for this. In the Business, Government and R&D sectors, we struggle with the question of where do we want to go. CO2 reduction is not only a matter of switching from fossil fuels to sustainable sources but also the products made from those fossil sources need to be developed differently. So the whole chain from raw material to final product needs to be looked over and redesigned. The central government speaks of Innovation Ecosystems .
One of the possible options is to set up one or more Circular Economy networks. This could be as a working group, A Linkedin group, A WhatsApp or Signal group or via Video Conferencing. Let us know what you are interested in. regionLimburg
To realise our vision, we cooperate with a number of other organisations and associations. First of all, we have long been working together with the Drielanden Ingenieurscontact DIK(Drielanden Engineers Contact) in which a number of engineering associations from the Euregio work together to bring engineers from various disciplines together and exchange knowledge and network.
We also work closely with VDI, the German engineering association. There will be various forms of cooperation with this association in the future, including thematic work.
We are very pleased to share information about our newest cooperation partner: Maastricht University! Maastricht University with its Department of Science and Engineering became a KIVI member in 2023. This University Faculty specialises in Circular Economy and delivers Bachelors, Masters and PhD specialised in this field. We aim to deepen that collaboration through "lunch webinars" and meetings.
In short, a lot of plans for the near future that we would like to realise with you and external organisations. Will you join us?
Kind regards
The board of KIVI-Limburg
