VISIT: Nuon heat grid from the AVR to Schuytgraaf (Arnhem)
Several sustainable principles were applied in the development of the Schuytgraaf neighbourhood.
For the heat supply, it was decided not to build a gas network in the district. To provide the district with heating and hot water in a more sustainable way, Nuon has constructed a heat network. The heat has come from AVR's waste-to-energy plant in Duiven since 2015, making it even more sustainable. An auxiliary heat plant fired by sustainable biofuel is present in the district as a back-up.
As Nuon's office is located at Industriepark Kleefse Waard (IPKW), we start there with an explanation of heat networks. We will then visit the auxiliary heat plant in Schuytgraaf.
