Manipulating, defrauding and cheating - predictable or predictable?

In this workshop "Ik weet dat u liegt" by Drs Guus Essers, we will interactively explore the day-to-day practice of fraudulent behaviour. His bestseller Ik weet dat u liegt (7th edition) puts all kinds of lies and forms of deception under the microscope. We are all guilty of white lies on a daily basis.

This workshop evening focuses on the less innocent lies and manipulations in the book. For instance from egocentrists, narcissists and psychopaths. And certainly also from top executives and politicians. They can manipulate, mislead and deceive disastrously and destructively out of callous self-interest. Important questions here are how to recognise these wrong people and leaders in advance. Together, we practice different forms of lie detection. Plus: how to guard against it - fraud prevention. Respected professional checklists can make us wiser in this respect and support us in working practice. After all: forewarned is forearmed.

An important topic is also how to recognise lies as hot spots. How and when can we tell from someone whether he or she is lying? Can language be an indication? Can it be seen from body language? The study of the balance between radical honesty and radical dishonesty is explained in the lecture and elaborated in relation to our professional intuition and experience. We feel that something is not right, but how to make it hard? We address the large group of 'fresh fraudsters' with known lies and deceptions. Besides cheating in a more general perspective, the evening will focus on psychopathology in business, and on universal micro-expressions. Unconsciously, we can all perceive these ultra-short facial movements. We will interactively discuss the benefits that consciously signalling micro-expressions can bring in personal and professional contacts and activities. Think of negotiation, sales calls, recruitment & selection and pathological deception.

We delve with each other into the challenging world of truth-telling. The aim of this evening is to enhance expertise in lie detection for all participants in a practical and engaging way.
