Last Monday 5 March saw another successful Networking Café. It was preceded by the General Members' Meeting, which was also attended by quite a few members.

The Network Café was attended by a total of over 30 people. In his presentation, Niels Willemsen of Royal Haskoning DHV (RHDHV) talked about the renovation of various bridges, including specifically the Tacitus Bridge near Ewijk.

This bridge has been jacked up for the purpose of the slightly thicker High Strength Concrete (HSB) that now rests on it, the pendants were replaced, which could have been an extremely risky job (thanks to good calculations, it was done) and welding work was carried out under the road surface for 1.5 years in order to build in reinforcing partitions.

During the presentation, Kahoot was also used to have the audience fill in questions on their smartphones at the same time, in order to gauge what they thought the answer was. Partly because of this, there was a nice interaction between audience and speaker. Niels' presentation was therefore very interesting. There were many questions from the audience which made it extra interactive.

In short, another successful networking café!

Description

Prior to the presentation, the Agemene Ledenvergadering van regio Gelderland will be held [19:00 - 19:30]

The Waal Bridge near Ewijk, formally the Tacitus Bridge is a double cable-stayed bridge in the Netherlands, located in the A50 motorway. The bridge spans the river Waal over a length of 1,055 metres with a main span of 270 metres. It is one of the longer river bridges in the Netherlands.

As this bridge had a worn and cracked bridge deck, renovation started in 2012. This involved providing the bridge with double-layer ZOAB, reinforcing the bridge deck structure, reinforcing the bridge deck with high-strength concrete and replacing the joint crossings. The bridge was also jacked up by 1.5 metres to make its clearance equal to that of the new bridge. Originally planned to reopen the old bridge in 2014, it became clear in late 2013 that a more extensive renovation was necessary due to the poor condition of the bridge. The renovated bridge reopened on early 2017. Niels Willemsen tells us about this renovation project
