Usually, local wood species are not considered suitable for outdoor applications and people resort to foreign tropical hardwoods.

Is this necessary? And is it justified?

Thanks to a Dutch innovation on the market since 2007, this is no longer necessary: Accoya wood, invented and produced in Arnhem.
It is made of fast-growing softwood from sustainably managed forests (FSC) while exceeding the dimensional stability and durability of tropical hardwood.

The end product is guaranteed against wood rot for 50 years above ground and 25 years in ground contact.
