The field of technical medicine is still developing. Currently, technical physicians mainly work in top clinical or academic hospitals. Within hospitals, they work in various departments, such as surgery, neurology, cardiology, radiology, nuclear medicine and intensive care, but also across disciplines, for example in 3D planning of operations or artificial intelligence.

Due to the innovative nature of the profession, technical physicians are closely involved in departmental scientific research. They also contribute to the diagnosis and treatment of patients through innovative use of technology in healthcare, often within multidisciplinary teams. For example, in diagnostics around patients who are difficult to discharge from ventilation.
