It was an interesting webinar highlighting different aspects of building in wood.

The speakers were well matched, Rob Stark and Patrick van Dodewaard of the consulting engineering firm IMd and Rob Doomen of Pieters Bouwtechniek have been working together for years to design timber buildings. Wooden buildings are taller than I initially imagined. Heights of around 70 metres have already been realised. However, real skyscrapers are not among the possibilities. Wooden buildings are beautiful and durable, but also a lot more expensive than conventional steel and concrete buildings. Sometimes concrete is used because of sound insulation.

Some buildings are demountable and can then be rebuilt in a different location after a number of years.

You can find the presentations on the website. The answers to the chat questions will be added soon.
