We as KIVI were invited to the startup Assemblator to visit their innovative Robot Assemblator in the workroom of the former Pieter Baan Centre in Utrecht.

They have conceived and built a modular robot system that is quickly configurable and therefore widely deployable. They are still developing modules and are now running tests. Assemblator's core functions are:

  1. Flexibly configurable building blocks, self-developed and in-house built modules, such as mechanical construction, vision, grippers, feed & fix, measure & test, etc.
  2. Assemblator as a service. They do not sell the modules or a complete robot, but want to supply assembled products or semi-finished products by series. Customers supply their parts or sub-assemblies and Assemblator assembles the products.

Assemblator is ready for a 'launching partner'. Electronics, medical devices, consumer products, etc., come to mind as areas of work.

Assembling manageable products is common. Finding the right place in the established industry will take some time. The innovative business model differs from the usual offerings and joining forces with a startup is always extra exciting for customers.

Interest has been expressed from home and abroad. Companies are facing a shortage of employees, especially for controlled routine work to be carried out. As a result of geopolitical unrest, international logistics chains appear vulnerable, making the Netherlands strategically important again as a production location.

The question for us as visitors is to open up our network:

  • Introduction to potential customers who would be helped by this kind of (sub)assembly capacity.
  • Introduction to potential investors who would like to give the concept a chance.

So: Come see, ask your questions and think along. It's bound to be interesting.
