Description

Corda Campus Hasselt hosts an exhibition of products that were once considered groundbreaking technological innovations. Some of those products were once made at what is now the campus; the rest are from Apple's factories in America. Electronics giants Apple and Philips played an important role in the digital revolution by bringing pioneering technologies to a wide audience in a catchy way. High time to put these pioneers in the spotlight in an original way, they thought at Corda Campus Hasselt, where the exhibition can be seen until 6 May.

Incidentally, the campus in itself is also an example of successful restructuring: the transformation from Philips site to Corda Campus has ensured that 3,000 people are once again employed in more than 200 smaller companies. 'Epicorda', as the exhibition is called, not only links to the Philips site, there is also a connection between Philips and Apple. That runs through Gaston Bastiaens, the innovation manager at Philips who was 'shadowed' by Apple in the early 1990s. The innovation manager - like the US electronics giant - was clearly ahead of his time. So there had to be an exhibition around both tech giants at some point.

The exhibition brings together more than 60 innovations developed by Philips Hasselt, together with Apple products from the private collection of entrepreneur Peter Hinssen. Innovations that changed the world. Think of the cassette (player) and recorder, the electronic organ Philicorda, the CD, CD-ROM and CDI, the laser plate.

In its own way, Apple also brought innovation to the general public. Of these, numerous prototypes and items are on display. For instance, the 'Newton' was the forerunner of the iPad. But think also of the MacBook, the iPod and the iPhone. Corda Campus is currently considered an epicentre for innovation in Belgian Limburg. It is therefore the dream platform for the unique exhibition, which brings together the story of two leading manufacturers. The makers hope it will inspire young entrepreneurs and start-ups based at the Campus. Many people no longer know which top products were once made in Hasselt. Those who want to be inspired towards the future need to know their past. And you can experience that at 'Epicorda', is the thought
