Fort Eben-Emael (B), giant among forts
Description
The fort of Eben-Emael became very famous during the battle on 10 May 1940 when a small team of German paratroopers took control of the fort's artillery in less than 15 minutes. Organisation, innovation and daring were the keys to the German success. Visit Fort Eben-Emael and discover the incredible adventure of the first moments of World War II. We will inform you about the secret, innovative German plans and the powerful weapons.
Today, this gigantic complex has been brought back to life. You will discover the kitchen, dormitories, infirmary, showers and so much more as it was originally. More than 75 mannequins and special sound effects reconstruct daily life in this stunning city.
Also on display is a reconstructed glider (fuselage) used by the Germans.
After lunch, on your own, a brisk walk OP the fort can be made, past the various bunkers, turrets and a fine viewpoint on the Albert Canal (good walking shoes required) and/or an additional excursion through the fort.
