Damen Shiprepair yard
Damen Ship Repair Amsterdam is part of the Damen Group and has an annual turnover of Euro 500 million. with around 1,500 projects. The total annual turnover of the International Damen Group is 2 Billion. In one generation, the Group has grown from 5 to 9000 men
Tjeerd Schulting, who started in 1998 as an intern, is now Managing Director of Damen Ship Repair. In his presentation, he gave an overview from its origins in 1915 to today's shipyard. A succession of mergers, bankruptcies and takeovers (NSM; NDM; NDSM; Verolme; INCA group). In 2013, Damen takes over the company. It employs 110 people with mostly 200 workers from permanent suppliers.
In addition to repair and maintenance, Ballast Water and Air Emission Purification, Scrubbers, Pipe Layers and newbuilding orders currently occur.
There are plans to roof the small docks and possibly yacht building.
After the presentation, there was a tour of the company halls and the yard.
The ferry Princess Seaways from IJmuiden to New Castle v.v. was in the large dock for maintenance and minor repairs. Impressive to be able to walk under this ship.
The excursion was on the day of KIVI Noord-Holland's 40th anniversary. There were 70 !!! participants.
Description
In February 2017, it will be 40 years since the first KIVI Region North Holland meeting was organised by Ir W.G. van Olm in one of the rooms of restaurant 'Bosrand' (now 'The Veranda') in Amsterdam.
This will be celebrated on 15 February. First, with a company visit in the afternoon to the Damen Shiprepair yard in Amsterdam (North-West).
In the evening, this will be followed by a drinks & dinner & keynote speech on a 116-year-old engineering marvel: the beautifully restored and maintained paddle steamer 'Kapitein Anna'

The excursion is not suitable for people with walking difficulties. Helmets and glasses are available. Safety shoes not compulsory. Location not to be confused with Damen Shiprepair Oranjewerf at Nieuwendammerdijk 15 in Amsterdam). For those who will attend the lustrum evening programme afterwards, Kapitein Anna is easy to reach on foot or by car, approximately 1200 metres in South-East direction to the NDSM pier.
-- TRANSPORT --
By public transport from the IJ side of Amsterdam Central Station by van Riemsdijkveer (NDSM ferry) to the stop 'NDSM'. Then walk about 1500 metres in a North-West direction along the IJ. Of course, Danen can also be reached by car.
