ESA/ESTEC & Space Expo
The tour began with a welcome speech by Robert Willemson, Estec Communications, on the origins of Estec, the organisation with the all the branches around the world and which activities are based in Noordwijk. A thorough identity check was followed by a tour of the Test Centre. The Test Centre was followed by a visit to the Concurrent Design Facility. Here, Hans de Koning gave a presentation on how this design facility can save an enormous amount of time for new ideas in terms of costs, feasibility, etc. to be realised. This was followed finally by a visit to the Space Expo. All special and worthwhile. Prior to the excursion, an excellent lunch was organised at Restaurant "Koetjes de Cleyburg" in Noordwijk. The attendance was full with 33 participants, the maximum allowable number. The visit was organised by the North Holland Region and Aerospace Engineering Departments.
Description
For the second activity of the 2010-2011 season, KIVI NIRIA Region Noord-Holland, in cooperation with the Aerospace Engineering Department, is organising a visit to ESTEC and Space Expo, ESTEC's space exhibition visitors centre, Keplerlaan 3 in Noordwijk.
Beforehand, a lunch has been organised at the nearby Restaurant "Koetjes en Kalfjes de Cleyburch" Heerenweg 227, Noordwijk, 12:00-13:15.
From 13:15-13:30 move to Space Expo.
The tour starts at Space Expo, located at Keplerlaan 3 in Noordwijk.
The programme consists of a general introduction about ESA/ESTEC, a guided tour of the ESTEC Test Centre and Concurrent Design Facilities (CDF) and a guided tour of Space Expo

13:15-13:30 Transfer to Space Expo (1.2 km, on own initiative)
