AIR FRANCE/KLM currently handles 46 million pieces of baggage a year. By 2015, it will be 70 million. The challenge with these large numbers is to keep the right suitcase with the right passenger. The 46 million pieces of baggage are handled by 1,200 FTEs. Out of health and safety considerations and an expected shortage of personnel, more and more is being automated. Complex here are mainly the safety requirements and the large difference in baggage offered. (wheelchairs, skis, bicycles, backpacks, surfboards etc. etc.) The very committed tour guides took us to places that are normally not accessible. The max number of participants, (25) was reached within a few days. The 25 lucky ones had an interesting afternoon and were surprised, that relatively so little luggage gets "lost"
