At restaurant DE MOLENPLAS (on the Ringvaart canal in Haarlem), sports reporter Heinze Bakker gave a lecture on sport as an essential component of society. Besides the facets mentioned in the announcement: economics, healthcare, publicity and ambassadorial function, he discussed politics, which has a great influence on the Olympics, among others. Think here of Berlin 1936, attack games in Munich, games in Los Angeles where many Eastern European countries did not participate etc. Also, FIFA's recent decision to give major football tournaments to Russia and Qatar have less to do with sport and more to do with power and money. After some anecdotes about the Tour de France and skating in Heerenveen, the afternoon ended with an engaging discussion and a large number of questions. There were 26 participants.
