Eneco Delfzijl bioenergy plant
Description
Eneco's "Golden Raand" bioenergy power plant, where wood chips from waste wood are converted into green electricity, is located in the port area of Delfzijl. The plant has a capacity of 50 MW delivers that is enough for 120 000 households.
Some 300 000 tonnes of wood chips arrive per year by ship, train and truck. The wood chips are burned in a combustion boiler, using the combustion heat to produce steam. This steam drives a steam turbine, which in turn drives a generator. The generator eventually produces electricity, which is supplied to the high-voltage grid. The smoke from the burnt wood is thoroughly cleaned before it goes to the chimney
