Book launch 'Animal rendering'
Description
The book 'Animal Rendering' will be presented on Saturday 27 January at Hoogeveen Airport by author Anne-Marie Oudejans.
Animal Rendering is the international term for the destruction of dead animals, and has a broader meaning than the Dutch term destruction. The book reflects a fascinating search for information on a subject few people know anything about. Anne-Marie Oudejans has succeeded in putting together a fascinating book with an abundance of visual material, which is not only interesting for people who work with animals professionally, but will also certainly capture the interest of a wide audience.
We live in times when we actually see very few animals in our environment. It used to be different. Transport, for instance, was literally done by horsepower. Imagine that world and then realise that all those animals died and had to be disposed of. A lot of animal material was reused. For instance, leather was tanned from hides and glue was boiled from bones. A whole industry developed over the centuries around cadaver processing. People found work in this industry.
Something that really touched Anne-Marie Oudejans in her quest were the prejudices and subsequent abuses in animal waste processing. Indeed, the work was done under appalling conditions. Even today, in our information and internet age, prejudices about animal waste processing still exist. The more she learned about animal waste processing and its history, the more respect she gained for the people who worked and are working in the sector.
Anne-Marie Oudejans and Nobelman Publishers cordially invite you to attend the presentation of 'Animal Rendering'
