On 16 January, we were guests of Demcon for the annual New Year's meeting of Region East. After the New Year speech by chairman Vincent Kroeze, there were two interesting lectures by Simon Gleave of Gracenote and Anatoliy Babic of SciSports. There was then ample opportunity to chat with the speakers and other participants over drinks and snacks.
With an attendance of some 60 participants, we can look back on a very successful meeting. A special word of thanks to Demcon for making the location available and for the excellent care of the afternoon.

Description
A list of the most promising left-legged defenders under 23 in Portugal's 2nd division? No problem for SciSports. A database with statistics on 350,000 players, updated after every match, is the basis for all imaginable information around football. As a spin-off of the University of Twente, SciSports is making international headway in the very conservative football world. They use super-sophisticated technology, artificial intelligence and deep learning. Going a step further is the system by which SciSports records matches with 3D cameras and delivers all relevant data back to football clubs in real time. Anatoliy Babic gives us a behind-the-scenes look at this innovative company that still won the Challenger Award for most challenging entrepreneur in early December.
Who will win the most Olympic medals at the upcoming Winter Games? There will be more and more speculation about it in the coming time, but the most reliable answer will come from Gracenote. They have developed a virtual medal mirror that is updated according to current results at, for example, World Cup competitions. Simon Gleave will take us into the world behind these predictions.
After the lectures, there will of course be ample opportunity to raise a glass to the new year. This year we will once again be guests at Demcon
