Earthquakes: current developments
Description
The consequences of gas extraction in Groningen are deeply affecting society. Buildings,flood defences and people suffer damage. Knowledge of earthquakes, possible measures and prevention, are essential for the area and its inhabitants.
The National Coordinator of Groningen (NCG) gives direction to the various dossiers within the earthquake task in Groningen, including knowledge enhancement. The NCG has perpetuated ín its 2" Multi-Year Programme 2O07 - 2O21 the role of EPI knowledge centre as a training centre for earthquake-resistant construction. The training of employees and job seekers and the disclosure of practical and innovative earthquake-related knowledge to professionals and companies will remain undiminished in the coming years.
The Royal lnstitute of lngenieurs (KlVl) is the professional organisation of engineers in the Netherlands. KlVl offers its members communities for subject-specific knowledge, a platform for addressing societal challenges and the opportunity for profiling themselves and giving direction to their careers. lngenieurs are doing their utmost to improve the quality of life in our society with their indispensable knowledge and technological solutions to societal problems, KlVl helps them do so. All engineering disciplines are represented within KlVl.
KlVl and EP|knowledge centre join forces and organise a joint KlVl-EPl meeting Earthquakes on 1 June 2O17.
During the meeting, the organisers and speakers, together with the participants present, will outline developments in the field of geology, gas extraction and earthquakes, the socio-social context and some current structural engineering issues.
We offer a programme with speakers who are experts in their field. The speaking time is dynamic and interactive in nature: there is room for asking intermediate questions and sharing one's own experiences.
