Engineer's cafe 'Bow-Tie'
Mr Arthur Groot of DHV's Environment and Safety Department used the technique called Bow-Tie to provide supporting information on how to properly identify risks. It is also necessary to identify the barriers to reducing the probability and possible effects. All this provides the opportunity to respond proactively to risks. Arthur, as an expert in this field, also clarified the links to the other resources, such as an RI&E, Hazop etc. Although the number of participants was lower than expected, possibly also due to the weather, the enthusiasm and active participation of attendees in the discussion was pleasing to the ear and mind. Applying risk management in various areas, is increasingly being used to reduce losses (e.g. absenteeism). It was unanimously concluded that this lecture was a useful evening event.
Description
In the field of risk management, a lot has already been said. Mostly about project risks. However, managing a business (operations) also involves risks.
Arthur Groot of DHV will give us insight into the possibilities of risk management on that subject too, using the Bow-Tie risk model. The Bow-Tie risk model is a model applicable to many types of risks. The risk model has its origins in the oil & gas extraction industry but is nowadays also applied in, for example: the aircraft industry, the healthcare sector, the financial world, the chemical industry, etc
