Engineer's Café The Empyro Process
Description
At this meeting, Ruud Meulenbroek of BTG-BTL (www.btg-btl.com) will introduce us to how Empyro works. At the Empyro plant, pyrolysis converts up to about 70 wt% of a biomass feed into bio-oil. The rest ends up as gas and coal which is used in steam and power, partly for self-consumption. The whole results in an energy efficiency of 85-90%.
The plant, unique in its kind, has a capacity of 120 tonnes of wood per day and has been in operation since early 2015. The pyrolysis oil is purchased by FrieslandCampina for steam production
