What does the future of KIVI Region Noord look like?

Region Noord is the region covering the 3 most beautiful provinces of the Netherlands, Drenthe, Groningen Friesland. About 1500 KIVI members live and work there and about 500 are members of Region Noord. For the board, outside corona, the past few years have been dominated by the search for new board members in addition to organising activities. This did not result in enough appointments of new board members and now the statutory resignation is on the agenda for two of the four board members. This year 2021 for Gijs Breedveld and 2022 for Jan Schippers. This situation forces us to think about the future of Region North.

Due to the lack of interest in the board positions, it was decided at the members' meeting on 28 July 2021 to embark on a trajectory. To continue one year with the partially outgoing board and inform the members of Region North that if no new board members stand up the intention will be to let the region cease to exist. Other options have been discussed several times and combined with the declining interest in association board work and the modern ways in which engineers unite, other than through the organisational form of a department and participation in a departmental board, give reason to estimate that the likelihood of no new board members wanting to stand up is high.

At the AGM on 28 July 2021, the attendance was not high and the above proposal was passed. Considering that that date fell in the holiday period, the partly outgoing board would like to have further discussions with you. With online larger groups, engaging in conversation becomes difficult so we want to hold several meetings with smaller groups of up to 25 people. Practically, we have made a division per province but of course if you cannot make it on the evening of your province you are welcome on another evening. Should interest now be overwhelming we will organise additional meetings.
