Veendam - We started with a cup of coffee and a piece of explanation of what Nedmag is and does. They are a market leader in high-quality magnesium salts with a very wide range of applications. from road salt to food and medical industries. Then a tour of the production facility. This consists of wet and dry sectors, each with their own challenges.
Production
After a brisk walk through the factory, while enjoying refreshments, we were given the explanation of the capacity increase and mentality change within the company. Based on logical thinking and without (significant) investment, the production capacity was increased from 155 to 180 kTon with more control over quality and a 5% reduction in energy costs. In addition, people's motivation has increased significantly, topping it off with being one of the winners as best employer 2013. Now on to the 200 kTon mark!

Description
Nedmag produces high-quality Dead Burned Magnesia (DBM) magnesium oxide, magnesium chloride, calcium chloride and magnesium hydroxide. Our products are purchased for a wide variety of applications. The main ones are: production of refractory bricks for lining cement and steel kilns, drilling fluids for the oil and gas industry, smoothing and dust control on roads and flame retardants in heat stabilisers for PVC products. But quality-critical sectors such as the food, cosmetic and medical industries are also increasingly finding their way to Nedmag. Nedmag's products are sold in Europe, North America, the Middle East and Asia.
Nedmag's success rests largely on the unique salt layer that has formed over millions of years at a depth of 2,000 metres in the north of the Netherlands. This contains magnesium salt of unparalleled purity. This enables us to produce very high-quality products. The purity of our magnesium chloride is even so high that it is used in cosmetic and medical applications, similar to dead sea salt.
Nedmag is an independent company with two production sites in the Netherlands. A mining site where magnesium chloride is extracted and a production site where the production of high-quality DBM and calcium chloride takes place. Today, our company has 140 employees, all highly motivated to meet the diverse requirements of our customers. Our motto: getting you closer to perfection
