Sonac Burgum
Description
Sonac in Burgum processes slaughterhouse by-products, the so-called "category 3 material", into high-quality products such as fats,
protein products and minerals. This is done by applying various physical and chemical separation methods, such as hydrolysis, extraction, pressing, drying, etc.
The products obtained in this way are processed elsewhere, the best-known application being in pet food for pets, such as dogs and cats.
All raw materials, which Sonac processes are derived from animals approved for human consumption and would in principle also be suitable for human consumption. However, for cultural, economic or other reasons, the latter is not done. A well-known example of this is tripe. In the Netherlands 'that's for the dog' but in many southern European countries tripe is actually considered a delicacy ...
Sonac is part of US-based Darling, which VION sold to last year
