Another visit to journalism this season. After all, as engineers, we like to stay informed. This time we visit the Leeuwarder Courant, part of the NDC Media Group. NDC media group was formed on 1 June 2007 from the merger of Hazewinkel Pers and Friese Pers. These companies, both with a long history, joined forces back in 1990 in the Noordelijke Dagblad Combinatie (NDC). Since then, cooperation between the two newspaper publishers has intensified. In 2005, NDC acquired the entire share capital of book publisher Veen Bosch en Keuning. This created NDC|VBK in 2006. In 2007, the names Hazewinkel Pers and Friese Pers disappeared and NDC mediagroep was created, the newspaper company of NDC|VBK. NDC mediagroep was created in 2007 from a merger between Friese Pers in Leeuwarden and Hazewinkel Pers in Groningen. The company publishes daily newspapers, dozens of weeklies, magazines and various interactive products and events. Dagblad van het Noorden and Leeuwarder Courant are daily newspapers in a long publishing tradition dating back to 1752. NDC Media Group can be found in almost every town or village in the provinces of Groningen, Fryslân, Drenthe and Noordoostpolder. From an extensive office network it brings northern news to the capillaries of society. Since this year, all newspapers are printed in Leeuwarden. New presses have been commissioned for this purpose.

The Leeuwarder Courant was founded in 1752 by Abraham Ferwerda and is the oldest newspaper in the Netherlands still published under the same name. Dagblad van het Noorden was created in 2002 from a merger of several Groningen and Drenthe newspapers including Nieuwsblad van het Noorden (1888), Drentse Courant (1826) and Winschoter Courant (1873)

At 13:00 we will be received at Sixmastraat. After a short introduction, we will be shown around the offices of the Leeuwarder Courant and will be able to see the new presses.
Afterwards, there will be a small presentation by someone from Tebodin.
