Amsterdam core city of the metropolitan region
Description
As part of the Century of the City, VPRO Tegenlicht made the broadcast "Amsterdam Makeover 2040". Partly as a result of this broadcast, we will visit Amsterdam.
You can join the joint trip to Amsterdam, departing 08.32 from Eindhoven NS station, or go to Amsterdam on your own.
PROGRAMME
10.00 a.m. Visit to the Zuiderkerk.
The Zuiderkerk is a beautifully restored building by Hendrick de Keyser in the Amsterdam Renaissance style. The building serves as the City of Amsterdam Information Centre, where we are welcomed with coffee, after which Dr Zef Hemel and Toine Goethem explain Amsterdam's ambitions to us.
10.30 am Presentation 'Development of Amsterdam as a core city of the Metropolitan Region'.
11.45 am Presentation 'Southern IJ banks, the station island and the Ooster- and Westerdok'.
12.45 pm Lunch in Zuiderkerk.
14.00 pm Visit to Hermitage on the Amstel
The care institution Amstelhof, dating from 1675, has been extensively converted into the museum Hermitage Amsterdam. It is a sister institution to the world-famous winter palace of the tsars and tsarinas: Hermitage on the Neva in St Petersburg. It is currently hosting the exhibition Matisse to Malevich, Pioneers of Modern Art.
4pm Choice programme including
He Hua Temple, Historical Museum/Civil Orphanage, Begijnhof or free shopping.
6pm Boarding canal boat.
With drinks, we sail through the historic canals followed by a tour of IJ banks, with expert commentary of Amsterdam's historic highlights and of the recent construction of the IJ banks.
19.00 Italian Buffet on board.
20.30 pm End of cruise
