Description

Need a special ship? .....Holland Shipyards!

With a unique position on the Merwede and close contacts with subcontractors and suppliers, the relatively young family business "Holland Shipyards" succeeds in confirming its slogan "Where Quality meets Flexibility" time and again.
The company, based in Hardinxveld-Giessendam, is engaged in new construction and finishing of coasters up to 4500 tonnes, inland navigation vessels and very specific sailing equipment. Accommodation ships, for instance to house larger numbers of workers on drilling platforms (and even prisoners!), are regularly 'on the slipway'
The company distinguishes itself from the competition by realising very short construction times (up to 4 months in the case of an accommodation ship for 320 people) and coupling this with a high degree of flexibility towards customers.

On the other side of the Merwede, in Werkendam, we will find another branch of the family business: "Hoogendoorn Maritieme Betimmeringen en Interieurbouw"; a company that also sets great store by customer focus.

During the visit to both companies, special attention will be paid to the way an order is established in this industry, from the acquisition/lobbying phase up to and including the delivery of the ship, sometimes thousands of miles away.
We will also discuss problems related to the hiring of temporary staff and logistical issues, especially if the ship itself has to be transported

12:30 - 13:30 Reception on board the Princehof with coffee, tea and sandwiches.
13:30 - 14:15 Introductions by Mr Cor and Mr Marco Hoogendoorn on the total process involved in building a ship.
Attention will be paid to personnel, logistics, financial and regulatory aspects.
14:15 - 14:45 Brief visit to the shipyard, where construction activities are in full swing at that time.
14:45 - 15:30 With the Princehof, past several shipyards on the Lower Merwede, to Hoogendoorn MBI on the other bank of the Merwede.
15:30 - 16:15 Reception by Mr Dick Hoogendoorn.
On the basis of photo and film material, this will include an account of the transport of the ship.example, a report will be given on the transport of a ship via the Danube and the Black Sea to Kazakhstan at the end of 2009.
16:15 - 16:45 Short visit to the ship carpentry company.
16:45 - 17:30 Discussion and informal conclusion of the visit.
