Installation technology with new zest
Description
The importance of installation engineering for building safety.
Until thirty years ago, installation engineering was a profession in its own right. Courses from secondary to university education knew the trade as a specialism, and in practice the work was therefore carried out by specialised companies.
In the 1970s, this began to change.
The profession of installation engineering began to fragment among the other disciplines.
Companies began to carry out installation as part of overall works. The decline in maintenance and the lack of sufficient enforcement of standards also meant that the quality of gas and electrical installation gradually started to suffer. With the decline in specialism, the number of errors in in-stallings also increased. It is time to turn the tide before unsafe situations or even calamities occur.
NRE, the network company for the Eindhoven region, is more aware than anyone else of the importance of good installation work. In a short introduction, Mr Piet Maas explains NRE's structure and activities. He then shows us an overview of laws and standards and the responsibilities and powers derived from them with regard to safety during the construction and management of installations.
Starting from the framework of laws and regulations, he discusses the consequences of shortcomings in both design, implementation and management based on past experiences. Results from projects such as, for example, the test carried out by NRE with MOT inspections of installations in homes are the signal for reflection. To conclude, he discusses the steps taken to date.
The presentation invites questions in the interests of developing the field. During and after the presentation, there will therefore be ample opportunity for questions and discussion of the topic afterwards.
