HyTeps: Making arc flash risks measurable: from theoretical study to the optimal PPE
Why attend this seminar?
An arc flash is one of the greatest and most destructive hazards in electrical installations. In the event of a short circuit, an enormous amount of energy, heat and pressure is released in a fraction of a second. Yet, in practice, the choice of the correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is often based on assumptions. This leads to clothing that provides insufficient protection or hinders work.
During this Power Topic, we will explore how to replace guesswork with certainty. Using arc flash calculations and simulations, we will demonstrate how the energy released and safe working distances can be precisely mapped out for each switchgear assembly. This enables you to comply with health and safety legislation (such as NEN 3140), provide your staff with optimum protection and strengthen your safety procedures.
What will be covered?
- The physics of an arc flash: what exactly happens during an arc flash, and why are standard safety measures often insufficient?
- From theory to calculation: how an arc flash study precisely determines how much energy is released at specific points in your installation.
- Choosing the right PPE: why general tables are insufficient and how to determine the required PPE (and safe distance) for each switchgear.
- Labelling and procedures (LMRA): how to translate the calculated data into clear warning labels for technicians, ensuring the Last Minute Risk Analysis (LMRA) runs smoothly.
- Practical examples: real-world cases, ranging from industrial environments to innovative battery systems, where we have optimised arc flash safety.
Who is this event for?
This event is essential for anyone responsible for electrical safety, policy and the welfare of technical staff:
- Installation Managers (IV) and Site Managers (WV)
- HSE and Safety Managers (KAM coordinators)
- Technical and Facility Managers
- Maintenance and service technicians
Speakers
Mandy Heppe – Technical Engineer, HyTEPS
Mandy will guide you through the theory and technology behind the electric arc. She will demonstrate how, through calculations and simulations, we can accurately identify the invisible hazards and the energy levels associated with each distributor.
Sarah Peeters – Founder, Wear to be safe
Sarah is an expert in the field of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for electrical installations. She will demonstrate how HyTEPS’s calculations are translated in practice into the correct PPE, ensuring your staff are optimally protected without this hindering them in their work.
Practical information
- Cost: Participation is free of charge. We believe in sharing knowledge to make the market safer.
- Capacity: There is space for a maximum of 30 participants to ensure an interactive experience. Places are limited.
