VDL Nedcar Born
Description
NedCar Born is now 48 years old. Built in 1967 to produce DAF passenger cars. Then from 1975 follows takeover by Volvo, Mitsubishi and the State. In 2001, only Mitsubishi remained owner until it announced in 2010 that production would stop in 2013. When, after negotiations with takeover candidates, the final curtain seems to fall, Wim van der Leegte for the VDL group agrees with Mitsubishi in October 2012 to take over the company for 1 euro.
The conversion of the company to Mini construction requirements was estimated at €500 million at the outset. A huge investment, the specifics of which had to be done in close coordination with BMW. For a long time, there was also secrecy and complete silence surrounding the project. That silence may now be broken and Wim van der Leegte can tell us his story.
