Looking back at MomenTUm 2023
On 28 and 29 September, we celebrated the academic ceremony of the year, with all our bachelor graduates and the Best Teachers of 2023.
The moment of MomenTUm is, of course, the massive throwing of the caps in the air.
What a splashing party it was during MomenTUm 2023. Rector Silvia Lenaerts led the official part of the ceremonies for the first time and presented the awards, both for the Best Teachers, the Academic Awards, and also the Marina van Damme scholarship. A full and varied programme makes MomenTUm the coolest party of the year, and a treasured memory for all our graduates of the 2022-2023 academic year.
Ceremonies and family
In both the morning and afternoon ceremonies, there is space and time for the official part, where students finally get to receive their diploma. The Walk of Fame is also a moment with a slight lump in the throat for the more than 1,400 brand-new bachelors. The families and friends who came along can only look on with pride.
Silvia Lenaerts, our rector magnificus, urges the students to live on above all with courage. "Everyone will, sooner or later, fail at something. That's part of the game. Remember that failure can also be a learning moment and you learn to be flexible. Flexible in the goals you set for yourself, in how you solve problems, in what actions you take, and flexible in how you are kind to yourself. And that flexibility is what can take you really far."
Best Bachelor Teacher 2023 - morning ceremony
The award for Best Bachelor Teacher 2023 goes to Florent Gauvin of the undergraduate programme Architecture, Urbanism and Building Sciences. He receives the award because his subject manages to captivate both students with a preference for the technical side of architecture, and those with a passion for design and architecture.
Best Master Teacher 2023 - afternoon ceremony
Among the master's programmes, the 2023 Best Master Teacher award goes to Karel van Donselaar of Industrial Engineering. He was chosen by the jury for his motivating and clear way of imparting knowledge. He is super friendly, always energetic and very patient, especially when he helps students solve problems themselves.
Academic Awards
In between the two ceremonies with graduating students, there is time for the presentation of our Academic Awards. Each year, a maximum of one graduating student per programme is nominated by the dean of the programme. So the nominees are already the best graduates of their programme in the 2022-2023 academic year! Rector Silvia Lenaerts therefore began by presenting a certificate of this to all the nominees.
The winners of the best thesis were chosen by an independent professional jury, while everyone was allowed to vote for the public prize on the TU/e campus until 27 September. The winning Bachelor graduate is Renate Debets (Electrical Engineering) and the winning Master in Science is Jorn van Kampen (Automotive Technology).

This year's public prize went to Rowin Bol, a brand-new MSc from the Faculty of Built Environment. He was the only candidate to receive more than 500 of the 3606 votes cast. The public's interest in this year's award was also demonstrated by the fact that the very last valid vote was received at 11.23 p.m. on 27 September.
Exhibition
The exhibition of all nominees will be on display until 6 October at the TU/e next to the Atlas pond, and from 7 to 16 October at The Strip on the High Tech Campus.
