Description

On Thursday 25 September, we visit Elopak BV. Elopak, with 255 employees based in Terneuzen, is part of one of the world's largest packaging producers for dairy products and fruit juices. Elopak (European License Of Pure-PAK) started in Norway in 1957 and has branches in more than 40 countries. Today it is 100% part of the Norwegian industrial Ferd Group. It now employs more than 2,500 people and achieves a turnover of some EUR 700 million.
For customers such as Campina, Friesland Foods and Tropicana, Elopak is not only a packaging supplier, but also supplies complete filling and packaging systems that are developed and built in-house.

Our visit involves a tour of the beverage packaging production site in Terneuzen. In addition to a general introduction of Elopak, you will get an idea of the Terneuzen production site through a presentation and a tour of the various production processes. In Terneuzen, these consist of three main operations, namely:
- printing coated board using the flexo process;
- applying crease lines and punching out the basic shape.
- flame sealing: bonding the longitudinal seam by heating the polyethylene layer on the surfaces to be sealed, after which they are folded, pressed and cooled. The resulting flat-folded tubes (blanks) are packed, inline, in cartons and stacked on pallets.

The presentation will elaborate on some of the techniques used today, such as UV-Flexo printing and robotics. Afterwards, there will be room for discussion on the pros and cons of today's technology.
