The use of minerals and metals is expected to increase significantly in the coming period as a result of the goals to be CO2 neutral in Europe by 2050.

Are there enough reserves of minerals and metals worldwide? An additional problem is that many minerals and metals including minerals have to be brought in from outside the EU. This makes Europe vulnerable. Raw materials often play a role in international conflicts.
Due to globalisation, the processing of minerals into semi-finished and finished products also often takes place outside Europe.
The development and application of sustainable technology increases the demand for raw materials. Post-use recovery, recycling and reuse of many elements require improvement.
