Buffet Lecture The Future of Cyber
Description
Safely navigating between zeros and ones: The Future of Cyber
The term 'cyber' goes back to the ancient Greeks; 'kubernètikos' means control. Cyberspace is also all about control and steering. For instance, a surgeon can operate remotely and you can shop or do banking from behind your laptop. However, there are hijackers on the coast who fish for your password with 'phishing' emails or flood your computer with a tidal wave of data through a DDOS attack. How to stay on course in the turbulent waters of cyberspace, that is the question!
Prof Aiko Pras, professor of Network Operations and Management at UT, will explain how a DDOS attack works and how you enter someone's computer via a backdoor.
Yori Kamphuis MSc, is co-founder of Coblue Cybersecurtiy, a company that makes the digital world safer and focuses on bitcoin transaction identification, among other things. Kamphuis won the title Futurist of the Year 2013.
