KIVI and the Ordem dos Engenheiros de Portugal (OEP) have further strengthened their collaboration. On 1 September 2026, representatives from both organisations met in Porto for a bilateral summit. We discussed the collaboration between KIVI and OEP and the links between the engineering communities in the Netherlands and Portugal.

A key topic was the existing agreement on the professional recognition of engineering qualifications. Drawing on practical experience and data regarding applications from Portuguese and Dutch engineers, we examined the implementation of the agreement and potential improvements.

Attention was also paid to the international activities of both organisations, including participation in international engineering organisations, bilateral contacts and joint initiatives. In addition, existing and future joint activities were discussed, as well as the organisation of the next bilateral summit.

During the meeting, KIVI and OEP also signed a new reciprocity agreement. This means that the title ā€˜Certified Engineer’, awarded by KIVI, is recognised in Portugal by employers and engineering associations, and vice versa. This further strengthens the existing institutional framework for cooperation between the two organisations.

This significant milestone marked the next step in the collaboration between KIVI and OEP and provides a basis for further knowledge exchange and joint activities between the two organisations.
