At a festive gathering in The Hague on 3 November 2009, Gerard Vroomen was named Engineer of the Year. The winner managed to stand out from the other two nominees through a combination of personality, entrepreneurship and innovative capacity.
Gerard Vroomen (38) is (co-)owner and founder of Cervélo, a global manufacturer of high-end road and triathlon bikes.

Matthijs Kok (53), is director of research and development at HKV - Line in Water, a water and safety consultancy.
Terence Vehmeyer (37) is sales manager at Huisman Equipment, a supplier to the offshore industry.
