Allard van Hoeken wins first Prince Friso Engineer Prize

Ir Allard van Hoeken MBA (45), Head of New Energy at Bluewater Energy Services, was elected Engineer of the Year during the 2015 Day of the Engineer. Van Hoeken received the Prince Friso Engineer Award at the University of Twente, in the presence of Princess Beatrix and Princess Mabel, from the hands of Martin van Pernis, President of KIVI. The institute awards the prize annually.

"Van Hoeken knows how to achieve international successes by connecting the technically innovative with business acumen. Also, he can passionately and with strong powers of persuasion inspire others to make the switch from traditional energy to sustainable energy," said jury president Micaela dos Ramos.

Allard van Hoeken studied mechanical engineering at TU Delft. From 1995, he held various positions at Bluewater Energy Services and in 2000 completed an MBA at INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France. In 2004, Van Hoeken returned to Bluewater. Since 2009, he has been responsible for the markets technology development of BlueTEC, Bluewater's floating tidal energy generator.
