Unite industry and knowledge institutes

"With Rick Scholte, we have an engineer in a field that deserves more attention in the coming years. Rick excels because he knows how to realise smart and affordable solutions to noise problems that have an impact on both public health and safety. In doing so, he knows how to cleverly unite industry and knowledge institutes," said jury president Micaela dos Ramos.

Rick Scholte studied electrical engineering at the University of Twente. After his PhD at TU Eindhoven, he founded the company Sorama Sound Imaging. This company focuses on mapping and eliminating noise pollution, a major health hazard in the 21st century. His patented method of imaging sound three-dimensionally helps reduce noise pollution caused by industrial products. In addition, the method can be used against aggression and crime in the built environment.
