Jacquelien Scherpen winner Prins Friso Ingenieursprijs 2023

Prof Jacquelien Scherpen, professor and since 1 September 2023 Rector Magnificus at the University of Groningen, is the winner of the Prins Friso Ingenieursprijs 2023. The prize was awarded on 15 March 2023 in the presence of Princess Beatrix, patroness of KIVI.

"Jacquelien Scherpen is among the world's leading scientists in her field."

The expert jury praised Jacquelien for her versatility, which she combines with depth of content. Among other things, she works on cooperating robots and on electricity networks that independently decide where the power should go when. "She is among the world's leading scientists in her field, measurement and control engineering," writes the jury. "Jacquelien energetically combines this with a great administrative national and international commitment to science and engineering." At Groningen University, Scherpen is a driving force in strengthening and broadening engineering research and education.

Audience Award 2023 for Kerusha Lutchmiah

The Audience Award went to Kerusha Lutchmiah, wastewater expert at engineering firm Royal HaskoningDHV. In recent years, she has been working on monitoring covid-19 in sewage water, an important new way to monitor the spread of the disease.

Simone de Rijke third finalist 2023

The third finalist was Simone de Rijke, civil engineering consultant and parametric design team leader at engineering and consultancy firm Antea Group. She develops digital tools that enable better design in construction and civil engineering.
