Taking engineering to the next level together

Student teams demonstrate what tomorrow’s engineers are capable of. They combine technical knowledge and creativity, work across disciplines and turn ideas into innovative solutions to technical and societal challenges.

In 2022, partly on the initiative of Princess Mabel, the KIVI Engineering Student Team Award was established. This incentive award provides a platform for future engineers, showcases what they are capable of achieving together and raises the profile of innovative student projects.

Which student team deserves a platform?
Student teams are working on exceptional technical projects all over the place. They are developing new products, improving existing technologies and seeking solutions to societal issues. Behind these projects are teams where talent, ideas and disciplines come together.

That is why KIVI is inviting student teams to compete for the KIVI Engineering Student Team Award 2027.

The four competencies of the KIVI Engineering Student Team 2027
The judging panel assesses the participating teams on four competencies. Together, these demonstrate how the team collaborates, innovates, creates social impact and applies technical expertise.

1. Team spirit: You make each other stronger
   Open communication and mutual respect are central to the team. You share knowledge, support one another’s development and are open to feedback. By actively working together and resolving differences constructively, you create a positive team dynamic in which every team member can contribute.
   
2. Innovative drive: You dare to think differently
   You seek out new ideas, solutions and methods, and are open to experimentation and calculated risks. Existing processes and systems are critically examined and translated into creative, feasible improvements. Through the project, you contribute to innovative products, services or processes that add value to the organisation or the wider sector.
   
3. Social impact: You look beyond the technology alone
   You combine a broad vision and strategic insight with social and economic knowledge, including from an international perspective. The project contributes to a sustainable solution to a social issue, taking into account the interests of all stakeholders and delivering a visible impact.
   
4. Expertise: You translate technical knowledge into progress.
   The team possesses specialist knowledge and you establish links with other disciplines. You analyse complex processes, make them transparent, think conceptually and share knowledge with others. Through the project, you make a technical contribution to the advancement and/or further development of engineering sciences.

More than just a prize
The KIVI Engineering Student Team Award is more than just an accolade for an exceptional student project. The prize raises the profile of young engineers and their innovative projects, and demonstrates what they can achieve when technical expertise, collaboration, innovation and social engagement come together.
