Advanced Course in Acoustics

Would you like to learn more about acoustics and vibrations, or to specialise further in this field? In collaboration with the Belgian engineering association ie-net, KIVI members can take part in the Advanced Course in Acoustics (HCA), a renowned programme that has been organised for over fifty years by the Belgian Acoustical Association (ABAV), the Dutch Acoustical Society (NAG) and ie-net.

The course provides a thorough theoretical foundation, combined with practical applications. You will develop the knowledge and skills to analyse and solve noise and vibration problems independently. This makes the course a valuable specialisation for technical professionals who wish to further their development in the field of acoustics.

Who is it for?

The course is intended for:

  • Engineers and other professionals with a higher technical qualification;
  • Professionals wishing to specialise in acoustics and vibrations;
  • Technical specialists whose work involves building acoustics, noise control or audio engineering;
  • Professionals who wish to take individual modules as part of their continuing professional development.

Programme

The Advanced Course in Acoustics is structured in modules. You can take the full course or enrol in individual modules.

General Module

  • Basic physics of sound and vibrations;
  • Measurement techniques and signal processing;
  • Numerical simulations;
  • How human hearing works.

Building Acoustics Module

  • Sound and vibration insulation;
  • Room acoustics;
  • Installation noise;
  • Legislation and regulations.

Noise Control Module

  • Noise sources and noise reduction;
  • Traffic and industrial noise;
  • Noise transmission;
  • Health and safety and environmental legislation.

Audio Engineering Module

  • Loudspeaker design;
  • Recording and studio techniques;
  • Room acoustics;
  • Multimedia and virtual reality applications.

Practical Information

The course runs from September 2026 until early 2027. The various modules are spread over several teaching days. You can enrol for the full course or for one or more individual modules.
