Anorgion: a flexible solid-state battery
Lecture by Willem Jonkman
Can a battery made of organic material replace the lithium battery? An IJmuiden-based electronics company thinks so, and is looking for financiers to start building such an organic battery factory. The power will be extracted from dead plants. And that has a lot of advantages, says this company's director Willem Jonkman.
The disadvantages of the lithium battery are well known. They are heavy and expensive, they require rare earth metals to be mined in distant countries, the batteries constitute heavy chemical waste when they are spent and they heat up quickly.
IJmuiden entrepreneur Willem Jonkman of the company BTAC Solutions says he has the solution to this. He wants to produce batteries composed of organic material. Willem Jonkman is not at all worried about customers: they will be queuing up for these batteries, he thinks. "There is room in Europe for lots of companies like this to start producing them. It also removes the objections to buying for home batteries, because this battery costs only €100 per kilowatt-hour." During the lecture, he will inform about this development and indicate the current state of play.
