Description

Many infrastructure projects take place in the urban environment. In combination with the various forms of design&construct contracts, good and reliable monitoring systems are indispensable.

In addition to current and future works, we note on various visits to (inter)national conferences, that a huge need is emerging on the market for monitoring systems in a wide range.
The term monitoring system refers to a broad area of our profession. The systems currently in need include the following:

- Monitoring the life cycle of structures (Life cycle management). Very topical in this respect are currently the so-called "bridge management systems" and asset management.
- Monitoring during execution: geotechnical monitoring and dimensioning.
- Monitoring with the aim of direct feedback of execution and measurement data in controlling the execution/construction process.
"Observational Method": linking logged execution parameters to the geotechnical monitoring and sizing in order to adjust the execution process in real time.
- Monitoring infrastructure, traffic, buildings, underground networks, rail, machinery, safety, etc.
- Condition monitoring.

All the above issues will be discussed. This presentation will also address a vision of the future regarding the various systems and the interconnection of all these systems.
