Getting optimum performance from your assets
Description
The construction of the second Coentunnel is an impressive project from a technical point of view alone. In line with the development in new infrastructure construction, this project was additionally tendered by means of the DBFM (Design, Build, Finance and Maintain) package in its entirety and contracted with one main contractor (consortium) for a period of 30 years. This means that the contractor is responsible for the optimal functioning of many objects (assets) for a long period of time. The Coentunnel Company is the Asset Manager and has to ensure that adequate asset (maintenance) management takes place.
The theme of the meeting is "Maintenance Engineering; getting optimal performance out of the assets."
Maintenance is (still) often seen as a necessary evil, whereby disruption of the production/operation process is undesirable and any nuisance to the surrounding area should be avoided as much as possible. When competing on the cutting edge, maintenance budgets come under increasing pressure. In addition, the economic crisis has led to a trend of increasingly postponing investments in asset renewal. As a result, Maintenance Engineering is increasingly facing serious challenges.
