The afsluitdijk of the future
Description
The afsluitdijk will soon be 80 years old! To meet future safety requirements, it is important to adapt the dyke. This also creates the opportunity to do more: will there be housing? Will a rail link be built?
At the request of Rijkswaterstaat, four consortia have presented their ideas for the future of the Afsluitdijk. The steering group Research Integral Improvement Afsluitdijk is processing the visions into a final report for government decision-making. A government position on the refurbishment of the Afsluitdijk and the question of the extent to which the visions will take shape in it was recently established.
The following consortia have elaborated their visions for the future of the Afsluitdijk:
- Naturally Afsluitdijk: Wubbo Ockels B.V., Royal Haskoning, Van Oord, Lievense, Bam, Rabobank and Eneco
- Monument in Balance: the plans of Noord Peil, GD Architecten, CE Delft and Oranjewoud
- Afsluitdijk 21st century in which Arcadis, Dredging International, Nuon, HNS and Alkyon are working together
- Wadden Werken the partnership between DHV, Wageningen Imares and Alle Hosper
Safety for the future.
together with the provinces of Fryslân and North Holland, Rijkswaterstaat worked on the future exploration for the Afsluitdijk on behalf of the Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management. The future exploration seeks ideas and opportunities for a renewed use of the Afsluitdijk. Starting points for the approach are the early involvement of the market and close cooperation with interest groups and between the authorities
