Thorizon is a Dutch start-up, which is developing a molten salt reactor, and has emerged from NRG Petten.
Molten salt reactors are special nuclear energy systems, with great advantages in terms of safety, flexibility and efficiency, but also with still great challenges. With their concept, Thorizon addresses these challenges, aiming to convert long-lived nuclear waste elements into short-lived waste and emission-free energy in the first systems. Thorizon has successfully closed a first funding round in 2022, and is now busy building up organisation and collaborations, in order to achieve realisation of a first system as soon as possible.
Sander de Groot is Thorizon co-founder and CTO and will explain the Thorizon concept with technical background on 18 April, what has been achieved so far, and what is still to come.
