Underground construction in Amsterdam
Description
Amsterdam is struggling with problems of livability, air quality and economic development. Air quality within the A10 ring road does not meet standards due to high concentrations of particulate matter and nitrogen dioxide. This leads not only to harmful health effects for residents, but also to negative effects on economic developments for the city: as a result of air quality, it will soon be impossible to issue permits for building projects.
A possible answer to this challenge is offered by the AMFORA plan: Alternative Multifunctional Underground Space in Amsterdam: by using the space under the canals, an infrastructure can be built that answers the challenges posed. This plan was developed in 2008 by Bas Obladen of Strukton and Prof Moshé Zwarts of Zwarts and Jansma architects.
During the lecture, Bas Obladen will further explain this plan and show its feasibility.
